Health and Environment Alliance - Bio-monitoring

You are here: Home PageMore issues > Bio-monitoring

Biomonitoring is a population based laboratory analysis of urine, serum, saliva, blood or other tissue, used for the purpose of identifying the presence of certain chemicals in the human body. Biomonitoring is a form of exposure monitoring, it can determine what chemicals a person has been taken up into their bodies.

Exposure information can then be used to determining whether chemical exposures are causing illness and decision makers can then use this information about which toxic substances accumulate in human tissue to make decisions on environmental and public health issues.
